Calming Corner Ideas

Hi there, it’s so great to meet you! I’m Mrs. T. or you can call me Jen – a Michigan mom, wife, new grandma (aka “Jemma”) and K-12 PE teacher who is on a mission to MAKE SCHOOL FUN AGAIN!

Love 2 Teach and Learn

As an educator who has taught kindergarten, third grade, sixth grade, and now physical education, I am a strong advocate for having a calming corner in the classroom or gym.

You may be wondering: What is the purpose of a calm corner?

Having a Calm Down Corner gives students a safe place to take a break and manage their feelings and big emotions when they feel overwhelmed or upset.

This special dedicated space helps with social emotional learning (SEL) by teaching kids how to recognize their big feelings and emotions, calm down, and return to activities ready to learn and participate.

Pick and choose what works best for you from this giant list of sensory tools, mindfulness activities and flexible seating ideas.
