TRICK or TREAT, MOVE Your FEET
Unleash the excitement of this TRICK OR TREAT, Move Your Feet Halloween game in your elementary PE classes! This super fun, high-energy activity, is perfect for getting your K-5 students moving, laughing, and learning.
This engaging activity combines the fun of movement with pretend play, imagination, creativity and even some counting, math, and good manners.
EQUIPMENT NEEDED
For this game you will need:
- 3-4 Hula Hoops
- 3-4 Small Buckets
- 40-50 Unifix Cubes that Connect
- Kids Ready to have FUN!
GAME SET-UP
Depending on your class size, spread 3-4 hula hoops out on the gym floor. Then place 10-15 separated Unifix Cubes in each of the Trick-or-Treat Buckets. Choose 3-4 students to be the first homeowners to start the game.
GAME DIRECTIONS
Explain to the students that it is Halloween night. Give 3-4 students a bucket filled with cubes and have each stand inside a hula hoop. Explain that the hula hoop is their house and the cubes inside the bucket is the candy that they’ll give out to the kids when they come trick-or-treating at their house.
When the Halloween music starts, all of the trick or treaters should skip (or any other locomotor movement that you choose) to the houses that they want to trick or treat at. When they get to a house, they must yell “TRICK OR TREAT.”
The homeowner then gets to decide what exercise and how many of that exercise they must do before they get their candy. (Example – “Please do 5 Jumping Jacks”).Â
Once the trick or treater completes the exercise, the homeowner must give them one cube/piece of candy. The trick or treater can then move on to another house.
OBJECT OF THE GAME: The object is to be the trick or treater who collects the most “candy” during the round. Choose new homeowners and play another round until all students have had a chance to be a homeowner.
GAME TIPS
Here are a few bonus tips to make this game even more fun for your students to play!
TIP 1: Have the trick or treaters connect the cubes as they collect them. It makes it easier for them to carry and it’s also easier to count them up at the end of the round if they are in a stack (Makes a great math lesson too).
TIP 2: I like to play fun Halloween music during each round (FAVORITES: “I Want Candy” and “Monster Mash”).
TIP 3: I tell the homeowners that the trick or treaters should say “thank you” after they give them their candy and if they don’t they can ask them to do an extra set of exercises (A great way to reinforce good manners.)
GHOSTBUSTERS Halloween Game
Discover the excitement of this GHOSTBUSTERS Halloween game in your elementary PE classes!
Designed for kindergarten through fifth grade PE students, this engaging team game focuses on key Standard-Based PE skills including: THROWING (underhand & overhand), CATCHING, ROLLING, and KICKING.
This team game is perfect for focusing on sportsmanship and teamwork, as well. Additionally, it’s an excellent assessment resource for teachers to use at the end of their throwing, catching, rolling or kicking unit.
EQUIPMENT NEEDED
For this game you will need:
- 10 White Bowling Pins
- 10-20 Soft Balls
- Kids Ready to Have Fun
GAME SET-UP
Spread 5 bowling pins across one of the black base or end lines in the gym. Then set up the other 5 bowling pins on the opposite baseline. Divide the class into two teams and have them line up facing each other. Finally, line up all of the balls along the middle line of the gym.
GAME DIRECTIONS
Explain to each team that the object of the game is to be the first team to knock or BUST DOWN all 5 bowling pins (GHOSTS) on the other team’s side.
Students must stay on their team’s half of the gym and cannot cross the midline. Students can THROW, ROLL, or KICK the balls in an attempt to knock down the other team’s pins.
Students can guard the pins but no part of their body can touch the pin when they are guarding it. If they accidentally knock their own pin down – I say “too bad, so sad,” and the pin must stay down.
The only way that a student can pick a pin back up that has been knocked down in the middle of the game is if they catch a ball in the air that is thrown across the gym from someone on the opposite team.
GAME TIPS
TIP 1: It’s fun to draw black ghost eyes on the pins with a dry erase marker so they wipe right off. You can also use a white tablecloth cut into pieces, drape it over the pin, secure with a rubber band and then draw a ghost face on them. And, if you don’t have bowling pins, 1 and 2-Liter pop bottles from the Dollar Store works great too.
TIP 2: I like to play the actual “Ghostbusters” song during this game.
TIP 3: This game is perfect for grades K-5. I just adjust the distance of the pins/ghosts depending on age/grade level. Sometimes, I let the kids work together as a team and strategically place the pins on their own side. They love doing this.
So, whether you decide to play these incredible Halloween PE games with your kindergarten students, first grade cuties or all the way up to fifth grade, JUST HAVE FUN!
