Love 2 Teach and Learn

Hi there, it’s so great to meet you! I’m Mrs. T. (Love 2 Teach and Learn) or you can call me Jen – a Michigan mom, wife, new grandma (aka “Jemma”) and K-12 PE teacher who has also taught Kindergarten, 3rd, and 6th grades.

And as a teacher in today’s kinda crazy world, I’m on a serious mission to get back to the Good Ole Days and MAKE SCHOOL FUN AGAIN!

It was during my second year of teaching PE when I came up with the idea to start incorporating fitness stars into my PE classes.

And, I’ve gotta tell you – it has been the one PE Teacher Hack that has been the biggest game-changer for both myself and my students.

What is a PE Fitness Star?

A PE Fitness Star is a student leader, appointed by the PE teacher, who gets to feel extra special for the day because they get to lead warm-up exercises, assist the teacher with equipment setup, choose teams, and help manage other class tasks.

This role encourages responsibility, confidence, and leadership skills while actively involving the student in the PE lesson.

It’s a super fun way to empower kids to take pride in helping run the class.

Teacher Tips – PE Fitness Stars

Here are a few quick and simple teacher tips to help you get the most out of using PE Fitness Stars:

  • Assign students a student number at the beginning of the year (another huge PE Teacher Hack) and simply rotate your PE fitness stars in number order to ensure everyone gets a turn.
  • Display the fitness stars for the day on a large whiteboard that is posted somewhere in or around your gym. The kids love seeing their name and you won’t get asked 5 million times during the day who the fitness star is.
  • I like to use the “High-Five System” with my fitness stars (high-five two friends to come to the front and help them with the warm-up exercises, high-five two friends to be taggers with you for the first round of our tag game, etc.)

Hey -Thanks for stopping by today. I really appreciate it. My students seriously love being the fitness star of the day – and I’m sure yours will too!
