Hi there, it’s so great to meet you! I’m Mrs. T. (or you can call me Jen) – a Michigan mom, wife, new grandma (aka “Jemma”) and K-12 PE teacher who has also taught Kindergarten, 3rd, and 6th grades.
I love teaching PE class because I get to spend time telling silly sports jokes and exercising while laughing with my students.
I’m also on a serious mission to MAKE SCHOOL FUN AGAIN and this SNOW SUN TAG physical education game is an awesome way to to just that!
READY! SET! LET’S PLAY!
Equipment Needed
For this awesome game you will need:
- BUCKET OF FAKE SNOWBALLS (You can also use paper wads, yarn balls, or white shower loofahs)
- 2-3 YELLOW HULA HOOPS
- KIDS READY TO HAVE A BLAST!
SNOW SUN TAG – Game Setup
FIRST, place the bucket of fake snowballs in the middle of the gym.
THEN, choose 2-3 students to be “IT” (Snowball Taggers) and send them to the middle of the gym, near the snowballs.
NEXT, choose a few students to give the yellow hula hoops (SUNS) too.
FINALLY, have the rest of the students line up on the end lines.
How to Play: SNOW SUN TAG
The OBJECT of the game is for the SNOWBALL TAGGERS (kids throwing the fake snowballs) to freeze (turn into snowflakes) as many people as possible while they are a tagger.
If a student gets hit with a snowball they must freeze like a snowflake with their legs spread apart and their hands spread out, high in the air.
The SUNS (holding the yellow hula hoops) are the rescuers and they are looking for students who are frozen (snowflakes).
They can melt the snowflakes and get them back in the game by warming them up – run around them one time and then drop the hula hoop over their head.
The rescued student now becomes the sun and quickly looks for a new snowflake to rescue.
*Play for about 1 minute, choose new snowball taggers, and play again.
Bonus Game Teaching Tips
📌TIP 1: SNOWBALL TAGGERS can’t “tag” or throw snowballs at the SUNS and freeze them and there is NO babysitting or camping – Taggers can’t throw a snowball at someone who just got rescued. They must give them a few seconds to get away!
📌TIP 2: I make a rule where the snowball throwers can only have two snowballs in their hand at a time. After they throw the two snowballs they can either get two more out of the bucket in the middle or they can pick up snowballs that are lying on the ground and throw them.
📌TIP 3: It’s fun to play the song “WALKING ON SUNSHINE (Kidz Bop Version) when playing this super fun tag game.
