Hi there, it’s so great to meet you! I’m Mrs. T. (or you can call me Jen) – a Michigan mom, wife, new grandma (aka “Jemma”) and K-12 PE teacher who has also taught Kindergarten, 3rd, and 6th grades.

READY! SET! LET’S PLAY!

Equipment Needed

For this game you will need the following:

2-4 POOL NOODLES
LETTER CARDS
STOPWATCH or TIMER
SMALL BASKET
KIDS READY TO HAVE A BLAST

SPORTLE TAG – Game Setup

FIRST, choose a few students to be the SPORTLE Taggers, give them each a pool noodle, and send them to the middle of the playing area.

NEXT, place the 5 letter cards for your first “sports word” into the basket.

THEN, mix the cards up.

FINALLY, have the rest of the students line up on an end line.

How to Play: SPORTLE TAG

Sportle Tag Directions - Love 2 Teach and Learn

FIRST, when the music starts, or the game begins, the teacher starts the timer/stopwatch and a regular game of tag begins.

When a student gets tagged they should:

Run over to the basket, grab one letter card and drop it off in the middle of the gym, letter side up.

NEXT, Sportle Taggers continue tagging students until all 5 letters have been brought to the middle. The taggers then work together to unscramble and figure out the sports word. The teacher records or notes how long it took the taggers to figure out the word.

THEN, choose a new word and new taggers and play another round.

FINALLY, repeat until everyone has had a chance to be a SPORTLE Tagger and declare the fastest Sportle Tag Team the WINNERS!

Bonus Game Teaching Tips

📌TIP 1: The sweet spot for this 5 Letter (Wordle-Like) Fitness Word PE Game is 3rd-5th grade, however, it can easily be played with older and younger kids. Just use longer sports words for older students and 3 letter CVC words or Sight Words with kindergarten through second grade.

📌TIP 2: If you use the printed letter cards included in this lesson, it’s helpful to print them out on cardstock, cut, then laminate them so you can use them over and over again.

📌TIP 3: This game is great to play as an intro to a new sport or PE unit of study – then I add the sports words to my PE Word Wall – makes for a great teacher observation lesson too.
