Wacky Bowling Game for K-5 Elementary PE Class (Directions, Scorecard)
Discover the awesomeness of this Wacky Bowling Game – a super fun twist on bowling that your elementary PE students will ABSOLUTELY LOVE.
I like to play this Wacky Bowling Game with my students on the very last day of our PE bowling unit. Students get to choose from 5 different “wacky” ways that they can bowl including:
- GRANNY STYLE BOWLING or BACKWARDS GRANNY STYLE
- FOWLING (Football Bowling)
- SOCCER BOWLING
- BLINDFOLDED BOWLING
- BRIDGE BOWLING
Wacky Bowling Game
It’s sure to be a physical education class that your kindergarten through fifth grade students will never forget! SO MUCH FUN!
First, divide your elementary PE students into groups of 3-5 students and send each group to a separate indoor bowling lane.
Then, give each group a clipboard, writing utensil and a WACKY BOWLING SCORECARD.
Next, give each group the following equipment:
BOWLING LANE, 10 BOWLING PINS and 1 BOWLING BALL for each group. Additionally, you will need 1 BLINDFOLD, 1 SOCCER BALL, and 1 FOOTBALL for each group.
Finally, explain that each group should rotate, taking turns, during the wacky bowling game.
Each bowler gets two chances to knock down all 10 pins, however, each bowler may choose any of the 5 wacky ways to complete their turn. Once they have finished their turn, they should record their total score on the scorecard.
Once all teams have completed 10 frames of play, have them add up their total score and declare a WACKY BOWL Team Winner!
Choice #1: GRANNY STYLE Bowling (Regular or Backwards)
DIRECTIONS: If you choose to bowl granny style – turn around, spread your legs, and roll the ball through your legs toward the pins.
Choice #2: FOWLING (Football Bowling)
DIRECTIONS for Fowling: Simply throw a football at the bowling pins, attempting to knock all 10 pins down in two tries.
Choice #3: SOCCER BOWLING
DIRECTIONS: If you choose to try soccer bowling when it’s your turn – use your feet, kick the soccer ball, and attempt to knock down all 10 bowling pins down in 2 tries.
Choice #4: BLINDFOLDED BOWLING
BLINDFOLD BOWLING – Put the blindfold on and have a team members spin you around three times before bowling. Be careful with this one.
Choice #5: BRIDGE BOWLING
BRIDGE BOWLING DIRECTIONS: Have fun bowling between a team member’s legs that are spread apart in a bridge formation.
Wacky Bowling Game TIPS
- TIP 1: If you choose to use my Wacky Bowling Game SCORECARD, I recommend printing a few out and putting them in sleeve protectors. Then, have your students use dry erase markers when keeping score so you can reuse the scorecards over and over again from year to year.
- TIP 2: It’s fun to have the students come up with their own creative and wacky bowling idea. Some ideas may include OBSTACLE BOWLING, SCOOTER BOWLING, BOWLING BINGO, COSMIC or GLOW-IN-THE-DARK BOWLING.
These ideas not only make bowling fun but also promote physical activity, teamwork, and creativity among elementary students.
