Hi there, it’s so great to meet you! I’m Mrs. T. (or you can call me Jen) – a Michigan mom, wife, new grandma (aka “Jemma”) and K-12 PE teacher who has also taught Kindergarten, 3rd, and 6th grades.
I love teaching PE class because I get to spend time telling silly SPORTS JOKES and exercising, while laughing with my students.
I’m also on a serious mission to MAKE SCHOOL FUN AGAIN and this physical education game is an awesome way to do just that!

EQUIPMENT NEEDED
For this game you will need the following:
- 2 POOL NOODLES (I like to use the extra long ones)
- CLIPBOARD with PAPER and PENCIL (or you can use my tracking sheet)
- DRY ERASE MARKER
- KIDS READY TO HAVE A BLAST
MYSTERY NUMBER TAG – Game Setup
FIRST, count up the number of students in your class.
THEN, secretly, one by one, give each student a different number. Write their secret number on the inside of their hand with a dry erase marker so nobody sees it.
NEXT, place the two Pool Noodles in the middle of the gym.
FINALLY, have all of the students line up along the end lines of the gym.
How to Play: MYSTERY NUMBER TAG
The game begins when the teacher yells out two different mystery numbers. The two students whose numbers are called become a partner tag team. Taggers run quickly to the middle of the gym and pick up the two pool noodles to tag with.
The teacher sets a timer for 45-60 Seconds (you decide). The Taggers work together to tag as many students as they can during their time frame.
When a student gets tagged (shoulders and below) they sit down on the gym floor right where they got tagged. At the end of the round, count up how many students the Taggers were able to tag (one point for each) and then record their score.
Begin a new round by calling two more mystery numbers.
The game continues until all students have had a chance to be a Tagger. The partner team with the most points WINS the game.
How to Play: MYSTERY # TAG
GAME TEACHING TIPS
📌TIP #1: Dry erase markers work great for writing numbers on the inside of their hand so they don’t forget. Plus, they wipe off super easy after the game too.
📌TIP #2: It’s extremely helpful if the teacher has a clipboard and a piece of paper to write all of the mystery numbers on before the game (or you can use the tracking sheet in my lesson plan).
Put it in a page protector and use a dry erase marker – that way you can easily reuse it with each class.
📌TIP #3: Be sure to cross out the numbers as you go and keep track of the numbers you’ve called so everybody gets a turn. You can also play with just one mystery tagger and If you have a large class, you can also play with groups of 3 or 4.
📌TIP #4: I like to play the ONE MINUTE SONG by Dean Jones when I play this game. It’s a fun, silly, upbeat song that’s exactly 60 seconds. If you play this song there’s no need to time the rounds. When the song ends, the round ends – Easy Peasy!
