How to Plan a SLIME FUN RUN Fundraiser, Field Day (6 Easy Steps)

SLIME FUN RUN is one of the most exciting and memorable events you can add to an elementary field day or school fundraiser.

Kids love the silly, messy, and colorful fun, and parents, teachers, and volunteers usually love how simple it is to set up.

Whether you’re planning a school carnival, a family fundraiser, a PE event, or a field day station, a slime run is a great way to get students moving, laughing, and having a TOTAL BLAST.

The best part is that a slime run does not have to be complicated. With a little planning, and a few simple supplies, you can create an event that students will talk about for years to come.

How to Plan a SLIME FUN RUN Fundraiser, Field Day (6 Easy Steps)

In this blog post Love 2 Teach and Learn (Mrs. T.) will break down exactly how to plan a slime run in 6 easy steps so your event is fun, safe, organized, and super successful.

Love 2 Teach and Learn

Hi there, it’s so great to meet you! I’m Mrs. T. or you can call me Jen – a Michigan mom, wife, new grandma (aka “Jemma”) and K-12 PE teacher who is on a mission to MAKE SCHOOL FUN AGAIN!

I have planned several SLIME FUN RUN events and each one was a HUGE success, which is why I am so excited to share my simple 6-Step Slime Fun Run plan with you today.

READY! SET! LET’S GET SLIMY!

STEP 1: Choose Your Goal and Format

TIMELINE: 3+ MONTHS BEFORE

FIRST, before you start planning or buying supplies, decide what kind of slime run you want to create.

Will this be a…

  • FIELD DAY EVENT
  • COMMUNITY RUN
  • SCHOOL FUNDRAISER
  • FUN RUN
  • CLASS REWARD OR CARNIVAL EVENT

Knowing your goal will help you make better choices for your course, supplies, and setup.

If you are planning a field day slime run, your goal may be simple fun and participation. In this case, students can go through the course in small groups or class rotations.

If you are planning a fundraiser, you may want to add registration, sponsorship levels, prize incentives, or pledge sheets. A fundraiser slime run can be a big hit because students feel excited to earn the chance to get silly while helping their school earn money.

For elementary students, simple is usually best. A course that is too long or too complicated can slow things down and make the event harder to manage. Keep the goal clear and the rules easy to understand.

*I personally have the most experience with planning a slime fun run as a field day station so we will focus on that option today.

STEP 2: Choose a Date

TIMELINE: 3+ MONTHS BEFORE

Next, It is important to choose a DATE, TIME, and LOCATION for your SLIME FUN RUN.

After choosing a date make sure to:

  • Clear the date with your principal or administration
  • Add it to your school calendar
  • Notify your PTO or PTA (This is a good time to ask about any “PE Teacher Money” that might be available to you)
  • Pick a “Rain Date” as a backup just in case
  • Communicate and send a “SAVE THE DATE” email to all teachers and staff
  • This is also a great time to secure a substitute teacher for the day if your event is going to be during the school day

📌BONUS TIP: It’s also very important to secure your outdoor slime fun run location. From past experience, I have found that a track or paved path that is about 1/4 mile long is the ideal length for a slime run.

STEP 3: Ask for Help

TIMELINE: 2 MONTHS BEFORE

If you want your elementary slime fun run event to be truly epic you definitely can’t do it all on your own.

Don’t be afraid to ASK FOR HELP! Helpers are definitely a big part of making your run a success.

Here are some ideas about who you can ask for help:

  • TEACHERS
  • PARENTS
  • OLDER SIBLINGS
  • GRANDPARENTS
  • TEACHER AIDES
  • HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS (Many need community service hours)

An online sign-up tool is a great option when you’re planning a slime run or walk and need volunteers.

In the past, I have always used SignUpGenius to create, organize, and recruit volunteers for my slime run events.

It is super simple to create and navigate and they have adorable kid-friendly school themes available. It’s also free to sign-up for an account.

You may also want to assign one person as the event leader. That person can keep the groups moving, solve problems, and answer questions during the slime run. Clear leadership helps the event stay organized and fun.

STEP 4: Order Your Slime and Squirters

Step 4 Slime Fun Run - Order Your Slime from Party Goat

TIMELINE: 1 MONTH BEFORE

Now for the most important step – ORDER YOUR SLIME. I order all my slime from PARTY GOAT.

Why? Because they are seriously THE GOAT.

Here is the Party Goat LINK TO THE INSTANT SLIME that I order for all my slime runs.

Additionally, I purchase my slime shooters from the Dollar store – Easy Peasy and they work GREAT!

STEP 5: Prepare – Gather Materials

Step 5 Slime Run - Prepare and Gather Equipment

TIMELINE: 1 DAY BEFORE

The day before your slime fun run is going to be CRAZY but it will pay off for sure. The day before your event you should:

  • Gather all Equipment and have it ready to go.
  • Send an event reminder note home with students reminding them to bring a water bottle, wear sunscreen, wear old clothes and bring an extra set of clothes to change into after the run.
  • Send a reminder email to all school staff.
  • Send a reminder email to all slime run volunteers.
  • Create slime run expectation and direction sheets for your volunteers.

Here is an example of a short little blurb I wrote to my volunteers when I did a slime run as one of my field day stations.

And, here is a basic list of EQUIPMENT you will need for your slime fun run.

Step 6: ENJOY THE DAY!

Enjoy the Slime Fun Run - Love 2 Teach and Learn

You did it! It’s time to relax (a little) and enjoy all of your hard work because your elementary slime run is going to be TOTALLY EPIC – I just know it!

It’s a good idea to arrive at least an hour early just to make sure you are good to go. You will need to mix up the slime at this time. The Party Goat Slime comes in powder form – you just simply mix it up with water in the buckets.

Then, once your volunteers arrive:

  • Have them sign a check-in sheet (this is great for sending thank-you’s later)
  • Give each volunteer a “My Name Is” Sticker Tag
  • Give volunteers the station equipment and have them set it up, ready to go

Then, spend your day overseeing and enjoying the giant smiles that YOU created.

BONUS Slime Run Tips

🫟Have a plan for students with allergies or sensory concerns. Some students may just want to participate in the run/walk without getting slimed. I tell the kids who don’t want to get slimed to put their hands in the air when they pass the slime stations – this signals to the volunteers that they want to be SLIME-FREE.

🫟Here are some creative ways to ramp up the Slime Run Fun:

  • COLOR ZONE RUN – Place different slime color stations along the course.
  • OBSTACLE COURSE SLIME RUN
  • MUSICAL SLIME RUN – Team up with the music teacher and make it a PE/Music event.
  • FAMILY FUN RUN – Invite parents, siblings, and community members to join.
  • CLASS vs. CLASS CHALLENGE – Classes compete for the most laps or points.
  • GLOW SLIME RUN – Use glow sticks or neon gear for a nighttime run.

🫟Most importantly, make the event fun. A slime run should feel exciting, silly, and memorable. Use bright signs, funny station names, and cheerful music to create a festive mood. Encourage volunteers to cheer, clap, and celebrate every student.

🫟I love to celebrate my students by awarding them with a fun Slime Certificate after they complete the slime fun run.

🫟You can also add prizes or participation rewards. For a fundraiser, students might earn stickers, wristbands, or a small treat. For field day, every student can receive a fun participation certificate or class shout-out. Little extras make the event feel special.

I GOT SLIMED

In addition to planning a few slime runs for field day events I also organized a physical education slime fundraiser where we raised money for the American Heart Association.

Then, the PE students who raised the most money got to slime me in front of the whole school. We had a BLAST – well they did at least – LOL.

You can watch the full sliming video RIGHT HERE.
