Love 2 Teach and Learn

Hi there, it’s so great to meet you! I’m Mrs. T. (or you can call me Jen) – a Michigan mom, wife, new grandma (aka “Jemma”) and K-12 PE teacher who has also taught Kindergarten, 3rd, and 6th grades.

I love teaching PE class because I get to spend time telling silly SPORTS JOKES and exercising, while laughing with my students.

I’m also on a serious mission to MAKE SCHOOL FUN AGAIN and this physical education game is an awesome way to do just that!

READY! SET! LET’S #makeschoolfunagain

Equipment Needed

Soccer Golf Equipment Needed - Love 2 Teach and Learn

For this game you will need the following:

  • 4-5 SOCCER BALLS
  • 4-5 HULA HOOPS
  • 4-5 CONES (Different Colors if Possible)
  • SCORING EQUIPMENT: Clipboards, Pencils, Scorecards or Blank Paper (One Set for Each Team)

Soccer Golf (Easy Game Set-Up)

FIRST, divide your class into 4-5 teams of 2-4 students each.

THEN, give each team a ball, scorecard, clipboard and pencil.

NEXT, place 4-5 colored cones down, spread out in a line, in the grass, and send each team to a different cone or “hole” to start at.

FINALLY, place the matching colored hula hoop several feet away from each cone at varied distances. If you have them, place the matching flags into the ground at each hole.

*Flags are optional but work great for seeing the hole from far away if you have them.

OBJECT OF GAMEGet your soccer ball into the “hole” in the fewest kicks possible and be the team with the lowest combined total score.

When the teacher blows the whistle the students begin the game.

Students each take a turn kicking the soccer ball (starting at their cone) as many times as it takes to get it into the “hole” or the hula hoop.

While one student is taking their complete turn, another student is holding the clipboard and recording their teammates’ score.

The other students on the team that aren’t kicking can help count kicks for their teammate and if you don’t have flags you can have a student stand next to the hoop/hole so it is easier for the kicker to see their target.

Once the teacher sees that all groups have finished their hole and recorded scores, the teacher blows the whistle and students rotate together as a team to the next hole and repeat.

Have students total up their scores after each team has “golfed” each hole and the team with the lowest score or average score WINS!

Bonus Game Teaching Tips

Game Tips for Soccer Golf - Love 2 Teach and Learn

📌TIP 1:  If you don’t have different colored cones you can simply number the cones instead with a sticky note taped to the cone with the number on it. This helps students keep track of the holes that they have already “golfed.” Also, if you have the cones numbered it makes it easier to rotate – 1 moves to 2, 2 moves to 3, etc.

📌TIP 2: I play this game with my lower elementary kids, however, I only use the scorecards with grades 3 and up. If you don’t have my scorecards you can simply use blank computer paper. I also vary the distance of the holes away from the cones based on the age/grade level I’m working with.

📌TIP 3: I make a rule where 6 is the highest score a student can get. If they get to 6 and still haven’t kicked their ball into the hole they automatically get 6. This helps keep the game moving and student frustration levels low.

📌TIP 4: Try to keep your teams small (2-4 students is best). I also think having 4-5 holes works best (more than that the kids start getting bored).
